Riparian Habitat Restoration Riverside Perth
Thanks to the PKC Nature Restoration Fund, Beautiful Perth have been able to restore riparian habitat at the Riverside Heather Garden.
Prior to the delivery of the Project, the natural topography had been altered by human intervention, and lacked any natural planting, the area being bordered by a monoculture of introduced heathers. There was no natural planting either within the water course or within its margins, creating an unnatural and contrived aesthetic compounded with a lack of biodiversity.
A planting plan introduced a diverse range of marginal native aquatic plants and moisture loving plants. Groundworks were successfully undertaken to restore the watercourse to its former natural topography.
The plants were planted by Beautiful Perth volunteers, in partnership with PKC personnel. The native plants introduced will provide essential habitat to support our native pollinators.
